3. Your Home Search

Once you are prequalified, your agent will set up a search for you based on your criteria!

Your criteria should consist of the following:

  1. A comfortable budget you would like to stay within
  2. Your target area(s)
  3. A list of your FIVE MUST HAVES!

Coming up with a list of your FIVE MUST HAVES can be fun! If you are planning to buy a home with another person, each of you could come up with a list of your top “must haves.” Then compare your lists to each other and pick five that match 🙂

Here are some ideas to consider for your FIVE MUST HAVES:

  • Are schools important to you? If so, Google and check school ratings to determine which school zones you would like to be in
  • How many bedrooms/bathrooms would you like?
  • Do you want a basement?
  • Do you want a big backyard?
  • Do you want a big kitchen?
  • Do you want an open floor plan?

After you have set your criteria, your agent will send you active listings to preview via email. Once you see something you like, notify your agent right away so they can check on the availability and set up a showing time.

Next step, Writing an Offer!

Tips:

  • A lot of our clients like to use Realtor.com, Trulia, Zillow, etc to search for homes. There is nothing wrong with using those websites, but keep in mind these websites are not as up-to-date as the multiple listing service agents have access to. So check for availability with your agent first!
  • Try to schedule more than one showing at a time so you don’t have to make multiple trips
  • If buying a home with another person, it is ALWAYS a good idea that all parties are present during showings
  • If homes are selling fast, that means you have to act fast if you see something you like. Waiting a day to preview a listing may cost you your dream home!
